Ucluelet Resort Offers a Slice of West Coast Paradise
Have you ever been to Ucluelet before? Neither have I but that is about to change. You probably don’t even know where it is. It is on Vancouver Island near Tofino. While Tofino seems to get all the love and attention of tourists and celebrities alike, Ucluelet quietly becomes more of a hidden gem each and every year. Affordable and varied accommodation options, fewer people and some amazing unspoiled oceanfront beaches and hiking trails. In short, Ucluelet is today what Tofino was 20 years ago and there is one Ucluelet resort that stands out as a true west coast paradise. This is where my Mother and I are spending the last few days of our epic Vancouver Island road trip. A little peace and quiet to bliss out to.
Which Ucluelet resort am I talking about? The one and only Black Rock Oceanfront Resort. I had heard from friends of friends that this Ucluelet resort had outstanding rooms complete with kitchenettes and that the views would be epic. Perfect for my Mom and I.
We arrived at the main building, parked our car next to a couple of Porsches (they were hosting a Porsche owners rally) and did our check-in. The main building houses the restaurant, conference rooms and a bar lounge if you feel like being social. We wanted to head straight to our room to unpack and unload the groceries we had into the fridge.
Aside from the main building, there are a series of smaller complexes each with a set of guest rooms. Ours was in one of those smaller buildings. We have a two bedroom trail oceanview suite. When travelling with another adult that is not your partner a separate bedroom is a nice perk. Let me give you a tour and be sure you don’t turn green with envy. It’s quite the suite.
With a room like this who would leave it? We did though for a trip into town for some food supplies and one morning we visited the resorts Fetch Restaurant which offers oceanfront dining.
We weren’t the only one having breakfast as you can see.
While our friend nibbled on grasses and shrubs we feasted on a delicious breakfast. I had the Chef’s Eggs Benedict which was amazing. The Hollandaise was perfect and that Ham was thick and tasty. Yummy hashbrowns as well.
Outside of those ventures out we pretty much chilled in our room. It had a massive patio that called out for chillin and some book reading while watching the tide come in and out.
If you are up for an adventure in Ucluelet make sure to beachcomb and hike the Wild Pacific Trail. One of the entry points is located just to the left of the Black Rock Resorts dining room. If you really feel the need to visit Tofino it is just a 30-minute drive away. Perfect for a day trip.
