Modern trendy or refined luxury it’s all about the location

Location, location, location. It’s all about location for me when I’m choosing a hotel. Of course, plenty of other details matter but the location is at the top of the list. When it came time to plan out my visit in “The Peg” I had an abundance of Winnipeg hotels to choose from but only two locations and two hotels stood out for me. One was located on the banks of the Red River near multiple restaurants and entertainment options. The other was also located on the Red River and near the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, plus it had access to an amazing market complex just steps away. How to choose? I couldn’t choose so I stayed at both and loved them equally.

2 great Winnipeg hotels

The two Winnipeg hotels I am referring to are the Mere Hotel and the Inn at the Forks. If you can only choose one hotel to stay at the good news is that they are only 1.5 km away from each other so easy to walk in under 20 minutes if you don’t want to drive.

The Mere Hotel – If a modern trendy boutique style hotel is for you then you can’t do better than staying at the Mere Hotel. Located on the outskirts of the Exchange District and near plenty of amazing restaurants and bars, this place screams hip and trendy. You can walk to everything from the Mere, from strolling along the river walk to heading into the downtown core for entertainment and dining options.

From it’s exterior and interior design to the little touches like in-room Nespresso machines and Molton Brown bath amenities the Mere has it all. Oh, and did I mention that bottled water, juice and snacks are complimentary as well. That’s a real perk.

The Inn at the Forks – If you are spending only a weekend in Winnipeg you may not even leave the location where the Inn at the Forks is located. Within five minutes of the hotel, you can walk to the Union Station rail station, the Forks National Historic Site, The Forks (market and shops), Amazon’s newly opened office space and the Canadian Museum of Human Rights. Plus it is right on the Red River so there are plenty of trails for you to enjoy.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to take advantage of the Riverstone Spa or eat at Smith while I stayed at the Inn at the Forks but I did get a great nights sleep in my room after a busy day exploring the area.

The rooms are comfortably modern and offer a great place to relax and unwind after a busy day of exploring. I found it quite comfortable to read for an hour in the chairs before I called it a night.

In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with either of these great Winnipeg Hotels. Whether you want to be closer to the Exchange District or The Forks the whole city is at your doorstep for exploration.
