You want to leave your house but you don’t want to leave town, try a Staycay.
Life is crazy busy and if you don’t take a moment or two every now and then to smell the roses you may be pushing up the Daisies instead. I’m a huge fan of treating yourself, after all if you don’t do it who will? Even though I’ve been on the road travelling to London and Toronto for my recent Curry Adventures I’m still in the mood for a little me time, alone and pampered at one of my favourite Vancouver Hotels, the Fairmont Pacific Rim. It’s one of the newer jewels in the Fairmont crown and it’s certainly a popular spot for the well heeled clientele that live and visit Vancouver. If it’s good enough for the rich and famous it’s good enough for me.
Check in for me is early Saturday afternoon. As a Fairmont President’s Club member one of the perks is you can check in as soon as your room is available. How do you know when it’s available? Why they email you of course because with the wonders of today’s technology you can pre check in the day before when they send you a confirmation reminder. No more standing at the registration desk, simply check in online and when you arrive at the hotel all you need to do is pick up your room key. That was my simple process and since the email told me my room was ready I checked in at around 12:30, leaving me plenty of time to start the Staycation.
Straight through the Lobby Lounge and up the elevators to the 14th floor I go. A Signature Harbour Mountain View room is what I’m booked into, I’m betting on some great views. The room does not disappoint. Quite large at about 400 sq ft it is equivalent to some Yaletown studio condos. A huge King size bed and a technology station that includes a flat screen TV and every cable you could need to connect any device you may bring along with you. Speaking of technology the room comes with an IPAD that is connected to every light and climate control in the rool, from this you can open and close the curtains, dim the lights and adjust the room temperature. All with a swipe and a touch of you fingers.
The star of the room though is the bathroom. Fit for a RHOV this marble encased room has everything you need including a soaker tub, shower and a separate enclosure for the toilet. Perfect if you are sharing the room with someone special but want to leave a little mystery in relationship. The bathroom is also high tech with a TV built into the Vanity mirror. I set the channel to a music station and had the music playing softly in background during my entire stay. All I need is some bubble bath and some candles…
Ok I’m all checked into my room but I’m not quite ready to call it a day yet, since I’m here I think I’ll head back down to the lobby lounge to enjoy a Fairmont specialty, Afternoon Tea. I’ve invited a new friend Stuart Mackinnon to join me for this afternoons decadence. I love afternoon tea and this will be my first time trying the Fairmont Pacific Rim’s take on it. It’s afternoon tea with an Japanese twist to it. A tower filled with pastries, sandwiches and of course sushi. To say it was divine is an understatement. Stuart and I cleaned off our plates and left no evidence behind.
Our afternoon of decadence isn’t quite over yet, I have a surprise in store for Stuart, we are headed to the Willow Stream Spa for a manicure. If you are going to have a staycation then you have to do it right and why not take advantage of the services at the Hotel for a little pampering. Stuart is getting to experience this “day in my life” this because of his generosity at Aids Vancouver’s Celebrity Dim Sum. He bought an auction item that included joining me for this afternoon oasis and I wanted him to experience the best. I think he enjoyed himself, after all who wouldn’t with amenities like this.
After our time at the spa was over I said goodbye to Stuart and headed back up to my room for a little nap time. Nap time turned into wine time overlooking the harbour. Gorgeous is all I can say.
My alone time didn’t last long though as friends, Dee Dhaliwal, Andrew von Rosen and Leeann Froese messaged me that they were also downtown and wanted to stop by for a drink. Back down to the Lobby Lounge I go. The room was packed and we were lucky enough to grab the last table. Good thing because I think I’ve discovered the hottest lounge in town, it’s here at the Pacific Rim. Live music, beautiful people and beautiful people made this a fun couple of hours.
Enough is enough though, I’m ready to sink into the King bed and sleep. Goodnight. Up early in the morning, a cup of coffee and I’m ready for my spa treatment at Willow Stream Spa. For my treat I’m treating myself to a facial to repair my skin from all my travels. Airplane air is not the best for a glowing complexion.
All refreshed and pampered it is time to say goodbye. It’s amazing how 24 hours can feel like an entire weekend. I feel rejuvenated and recharged, ready to start my week at 110%. With all the holiday craziness about to begin I’d seriously consider scheduling in a little personal time for yourself. Maybe a staycation at the Fairmont Pacific Rim is just what you need to survive the shopping, family and party commitments that are bound to overwhelm you. Think about it, it’s on my list of things to do again before the end of the year.
I’d love to extend a huge thanks to the team at the Fairmont Pacific Rim for hosting me for this staycation and for being so generous in welcoming Stuart Mackinnon to join me. Fairmont’s are always my first choice when I’m looking to book a hotel in a city. First class service and the perks of the President’s Club are a very nice bonus.
