Have you ever been to Niagara Falls before? A road trip in Southern Ontario would be incomplete without stopping for a few nights in the Niagara Falls region. I’ve chosen the town of Niagara on the Lake to be my home base. It has history, quaint shops, and it is surrounded by wineries and breweries within minutes of downtown. Of course, it is also a short drive to the most impressive waterfall in all of North America. Built in 1864 and restored from top to bottom in 1998 my home away from home will be a Niagara Hotel synonymous with Victorian charm and elegance, the Prince Of Wales.
The Prince of Wales is located right in the heart of downtown Niagara on the Lake at 6 Picton Street. You can’t miss it as it draws all eyes to its magnificent facade. At sunset, the red brick glows and the hotel lights up in golden light. Absolutely the best time to snap a photo in my opinion.
Check in at the Prince of Wales is fairly straight forward. Pull up out front or drive around and park at the back of the hotel, the choice is yours. The lobby sets the tone for the entire hotel. It is immaculate and filled with statuary and Victorian paintings.
After the business of checking is is down I am excited to head up to the second floor to get a look at my room. Will the Victorian charm extend all the way to my room? Absolutely.
I feel like I have stepped back in time. My entire room is blue! I couldn’t be happier as it is my favourite colour. The canopy over the bed and the matching curtains just add the cherry on the cake. Modern amenities are also there, just hidden behind the wardrobe.
I especially appreciate the modern chair and work desk as I’ll be doing some writing every day in this room.
The bathroom is very modern with a large soaker jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. It even has a heated towel rack so that your towels are toasty warm.
I am not sure if I could have chosen a more comfortable place to call home for three nights while I explore all that Niagara has to offer me. The Wifi is strong and fast, and every night a get a flower on my pillow when I return from dining out. It is a lovely touch that is very much appreciated and enjoyed.
There are plenty of Niagara hotel options for you to choose from and I hope you consider the Prince of Wales in Niagara on the Lake. There is so much to do and see blocks from the front door of the hotel. You will not get bored or lack good places to eat I promise you that.
