It’s Tuesday in Palm Springs, and you feel like a Taco or two. There is only one place to go and that is the Hacienda Cantina & Beach Club, home of Taco Tuesday. Every Tuesday from 4 to 10 pm Hacienda Cantina & Beach Club serves $3 Tacos along with drink and other food specials. Well, today is Tuesday, and I am craving a Taco and a Margarita, so I think it only makes sense to give Hacienda a try. I may just wear my bathing suit under my shorts just in case we can dip into their pool while we eat. It is a beach club after all.
Hacienda Cantina & Beach Club is located at 1555 S. Palm Canyon Drive, about five mins from the vacation rental I am staying at. It is a fairly large property because aside from the restaurant and bar lounge it also has a nice size pool complete with beach chairs and cabanas. The perimeter of the beach club is fenced, so it is very private from the street.
My friend John and I arrive just as they open so we have our pick of tables to choose from. There is a bar, a large outdoor patio, and two separate dining rooms. While I’d love to sit outside it is still a little too warm at 42ºC today. We opt instead for a comfy booth in the larger dining room.
Our first order of business has to be a Margarita. There are no boring Margarita’s here, and after we look over the options, I choose the Strawberry Jalapeno flavour while John goes for the Pineapple Chili. What can we say we like it spicy! These go down so easy we end up ordering a second round in no time at all.
Of course with the drinks comes a staple of any Mexican restaurant, Chips and Salsa. Gobbled up in seconds, now I am really starting to crave some Tacos.
Now that we’ve had a drink and a nibble on some chips we can focus on the reason we came to Hacienda Cantina, the Tacos! I order the Hacienda Taco with Beef and the Pibil Carnitas Taco (Pork). John also orders two Hacienda Beef Tacos but also adds a Baja Taco de Pescado (grilled fish). There is more to the menu than Tacos so I also order a plate of Braised Short Rib & Hacienda Chorizo Empanadas. Where do I start? They are all absolutely delish. I think my favourite was the Beef Taco, but the Empanadas are pretty spectacular as well. Surprisingly not greasy at all.
That was going to be it but the Manager came by to say hello and insisted we try two more dishes. His personal favourite which is the Braised Shrimp in Smokey Habanero Sauce and following that some dessert. He brought by the Hacienda Cheesecake of the day and the triple flavour Hacienda Flan Brulee. Without a doubt, I can see why he insisted we try these dishes. The Shrimp was very tasty and not as spicy hot as I expected it. Ask for extra chips and dip them in the sauce…. nom nom nom. As for dessert well, John says it is the best Cheesecake he’s ever had, and the Flan was just as tasty. Two thumbs up.
I can barely stand I am now so full, and those Margaritas pack a punch as well. By the time we leave to head off onto to begin our Stargazing adventure on the San Andreas Fault the restaurant has started to fill up. Taco Tuesday is a popular night at Hacienda Cantina and Beach Club so get here early. If you’d like to enjoy the pool, it opens Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm. Book a Cabana and lounge by the pool while the staff make you drinks. This is the Palm Springs life!
All photos in this post are using the Sony Cyber-Shot Digital RX100 that I have on loan from Sony Canada. It is very easy to use. It was point and shoot for every photo I took. I was able to WiFi the camera to my phone and share some of these photos via social media throughout the meal.
Taco Tuesday is a hot night at Hacienda Cantina & Beach Club. $3 Tacos and wicked Margaritas make it a popular spot. My favourite was the Hacienda Beef Taco but the Fish was also very good. Don't drive because you'll want to try as many Margaritas as you can handle. They have an impressive variety of flavours that are unique and tasty.
