A Whistler Weekend, 38 Hours Of Drinks, Dogsledding And Fondue

Who wants to go to Whistler for the weekend? I do, I do! I don’t care the season or how many times I’ve been before I will never turn down a Whistler weekend escape. It doesn’t matter if it is Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, Whistler is my happy place. When I got the call asking if I wanted to spend the weekend as a guest of GMC they didn’t even have to wait for a second before I answered yes. It means I need to hop on a plane, drive the Sea To Sky highway, have a great time and then drive back to Vancouver and return by plane to Toronto. In all, I’ll be in Whistler for 38 hours but it will be worth it. I’m coming back to the Westcoast and I am going to have a great time.

As I mentioned above I had to fly back to Vancouver from Toronto, pick up a GMC Sierra Denali and begin my road trip to Whistler. Driving through downtown Vancouver is enough to make a sane man crazy, but once on the Sea to Sky it was clear driving. Well sort of. It is a typical Winter/Spring day which means rain. No problem in this gorgeous truck as you’ll see in the short video I made.

My destination in Whistler is the Four Seasons Resort Whistler. I could really get used to this life. Check out my “unrooming” video below.

A little quiet time to settle in, unpack and I am ready to begin my Whistler weekend adventure. What’s the first item on my agenda? A cocktail down in the Four Seasons Resort restaurant Sidecut. I’m an Old Fashioned man don’t you know.

Then it is off to join my fellow travellers on this adventure at Bearfoot Bistro for dinner and some Vodka shots in the Ketel One Ice Room. Can you believe this is my first time to Bearfoot Bistro? I know I’m shocked as well. A fabulous meal enjoyed right at the Chef’s Table in full view of the kitchen as they worked their magic.

After dinner, we headed to the famous Ketel One Ice Room. Canada Goose parkas and Vodka shots for everyone!

My turn to drink

The first night is nearing an end so it is time to crash. So far I’m 8 hours into my Whistler weekend and the fun has just begun.

It is 7 am and the alarm goes off. Who wakes up this early when it is not a work day? I’m up because we have a full day planned which means I need to visit Sidecut for breakfast. It is the breakfast buffet for me with a personalised Omelette made just how I like it.

Now it is back to my room to change for the first adventure of the day, Dogsledding. By the looks outside this might be a great day to sled the trails as it is snowing out.

I’m extremely stoked about this as I’ve never been in a dogsled before. These dogs are beasts and eat up the trail just like the Sierra Denali ate up the highway. All while I am warm and cosy wrapped up in the sled. Mush Mush!

It is back down to the Village where I make a quick detour into the Four Seasons Spa for a massage. OMG, those knots needed that!

Back to join my friends for some Apres Ski at Garibaldi Lift Co. Burgers, beer and plenty of laughter and story telling of our day.

I’ve reached the 24-hour mark since arriving in Whistler and I feel like I’ve never left the West Coast. I am home and boy do I love it here.

A little disco nap at the resort and then we are back together for another adventure. This time we are headed up Blackcomb Mountain for a Fondue Dinner at the Crystal Hut. You can either get there by Snowmobile or by Snowcat. I opt for the snowcat as I want to drink. 30 minutes up the mountain we arrive and the fun begins. A broth and cheese fondue are on the table plus live music to entertain us. We may have treated the singer like our own personal karaoke machine, just saying.

After much wine and plenty of singing, it is time to head back down the mountain. Bedtime, and early wake-up call, breakfast at the buffet and then the drive back to Vancouver. My 38 hour Whistler weekend is at an end.

The fun isn’t over yet though because I’ve squeezed in a coffee with two of my best friends. Henri and Nancy, I love you!

Well, that is it. I’m back in Toronto and my Whistler weekend is just a memory. Like all memories this one is precious. Thank you, GMC for a truly amazing weekend and I’ve got to say that Sierra Denali is one sweet ride. It is not my grandfather’s truck, that’s for sure.
