A glass of wine, a few light bites and it doesn’t break the bank.

It’s finally here, Patio season! From all over the Lower Mainland Vancouverites emerge from their homes in shorts and flip flops and descend upon the many restaurant patios that our city has to offer. When the sun is out why would you want to be anywhere else? To honour patio season I’m on the hunt for 30 of the best patios we have to offer, from Whistler to the Fraser Valley I’m on the hunt. For the first patio I want to share with you I had to pick one of my favourites and quite possibly the one I spend the most time on Yaletown’s very own, The Wine Bar. 30 Best Patios kicks off the season with a glass of wine.

Walk to end of Davie Street and take a left, there you’ll find The Wine Bar at 1167 Marinaside Crescent beside their sister restaurant Provence. Open for just over a year The Wine Bar is a great place to hang out with your best friend over a glass of wine, or if you are so inclined perhaps a date night with that special someone. Long and lean the patio is perfect for couples and small groups to share an evening at, the service is attentive, wines are on tap and the food is made for sharing.

The Wine Bar is what I call a view patio. Whether it’s people or the marina you enjoy watching at The Wine Bar you get both. Even on cloudy and grey days the scenery is good but when the sun comes out prepare yourself, the beautiful people of Yaletown parade in front of the patio like it’s a fashion runway.

My favourite table on the patio is located on the right side near the entrance, a cozy booth big enough for everyone to get cozy in. If the weather is a little grey then the heat lamps above will take the edge off but if you need more warmth then the blankets on hand will do just the trick. On my last visit to The Wine Bar I was joined by CTV consumer reporter Lynda Steele and she went straight for the blanket.

Aside from the view and the staff one of my favourite things about this patio is the menu and the daily specials they offer. Monday’s you can order 3 “bites” for $10, Tuesdays it’s 30% off their Wines on Tap, Wednesdays they take 25% of bottles of wine and so on… Not only is the patio awesome but I can drink and dine here without breaking the bank. Please don’t tell too many of your friends otherwise I’ll never be able to get a seat.

While Lynda and I were catching up we couldn’t help but order some of the “bites” on the menu. I had to have the daily Gnocchi, it’s always changing so I’ve never had the same gnocchi twice. Lynda ordered the Goat Cheese Salad and because it sounded so good I also ordered the Baby Shrimp & Avocado for us to share. Yum yum yum. One of the hidden secrets of The Wine Bar is that if you are feeling like something more substantial for your meal then you can order of the Provence menu. You get the best of both worlds here.

I think you can see why I love it at The Wine Bar so much, it also helps they are just a few blocks from my house and just off the Yaletown seawall. Go for a walk along the water, stop off at The Wine Bar for a drink and a nibble then continue on your stroll, sounds perfect to me.

Patio Check list:

  • View – yes, water and people
  • Reservations – patio seats are first come first serve
  • All weather patio – technically no but the patio is partially covered and there are heaters & blankets if it’s a tad chilly
  • parking – best to walk but their is meter parking on Marinaside Crescent and there is pay parking underneath Urban Fare
  • Social Media – follow them on Twitter and Facebook, they will tweet you back quickly
  • Coolness – if you are lucky Executive Chef and Co-Owner Jean-Francis Quaglia may come out to say hi, he’s super friendly and the French accident is tres adorable!

There we have it, the first of my 30 Best Patios series and it’s a personal favourite of mine. There are good chances if you go you’ll see me there. Please come up to say hi and cheers a glass of wine with me. If you want to buy one just no that I drink Haywire Rose, I even have my own private stash there Smile

Thanks to The Wine Bar and Jean-Francis for always taking such good care of me.
