Victoria’s newest waterfront patio.

I know 30 Best Patios is supposed to cover Whistler to the Fraser Valley but when I get a last minute invite to go to Victoria for a day I just can’t say know. Victoria does have some great patios after all so why not include one of them, I’m already here anyways. Escaping for a day to Victoria is one of my favourite things to do, the Ferry ride is magical on a sunny day and once you arrive in downtown Victoria all you have to do is park the car and wander. Victoria’s Inner Harbour is a photographer’s dream and also is now home to a brand new waterfront patio at Steamship Grill & Bar. With the Robert Bateman Centre on the top floor and Steamship Grill on the main floor an iconic Victoria building is alive again and I can’t wait to check out the views from the patio.Steamship Grill and Bar

The Steamship Terminal building needs no address to be found but if you need to Google it the address is 1019 Wharf Street. On the left hand side of the Inner Harbour with the Provincial Legislature at it’s back, Steamship Grill could not have found a better location. The restaurant takes up the main floor with the patio facing the inner harbour and spectacular views of the Fairmont Empress and of the new developments near the Johnston St Bridge. Location, location, location.

Joining Gus and I at Steamship Grill is our friend Steffani Cameron, who now calls Victoria home. A harbour side table and a round of drinks is our first order of business and luckily we hit the sweet spot so no line up. A nice selection of wines on tap helps make my decision for me, a glass of Clos du Soleil Rose for me and a Roaring 20’s Malbec for Steff. Gus is driving so gingerale for him.

Not that we’ve got our thirst quenched we can focus on the menu, although with the harbour view focusing on anything is near impossible. Steffani and I are both craving the Burger, Applewood smoked bacon, amber ale cheddar, crispy onion rings…. I think you get the point. Gus went a little lighter with the Belleview Chicken Salad. Both were tasty and I can never say no to chipotle aioli for my fries.

Just when we thought we were done Steffani told us about their Mini Donuts with Nutella dipping sauce, 1 order please! Oh yes we did! Fantastic and straight out of the fryer. Hot and melt in your mouth.

When you visit Victoria next you’ll have to check out this patio. It’s huge and they haven’t even finished it yet as they’ve only been open for a few weeks. Wait till they put in the Umbrellas with heaters and built in speakers, this patio will be rocking for the summer season. Like I said earlier the views really are spectacular.

It may have been a spur of the moment trip but man did I have a good time. Sometimes the best escapes are the ones you don’t plan, especially when you end up on a beautiful patio like we did. Have fun!
