Twelve years after the initial proposal was submitted, the highly anticipated $1.4-billion Evergreen Line officially opened to the public on December 2nd. With the new extension operating from VCC-Clark Station in Vancouver all the way to Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station in Coquitlam (no transfer required), it’s no secret that Metro Vancouver’s accessibility just got a serious upgrade.

So whether you’re looking to entertain friends and family or are a self-proclaimed weekend warrior, take full advantage of your Compass Card this month and jump on the new Evergreen Line to check out these awesome activities and destinations!

How to get around Vancouver with a Compass Card

Consider this your Evergreen Line bucket list –  we’ve included something for everyone.

  1. Port Moody Brewery Row

WHAT: The craft beer scene has exploded in B.C. in the past couple of years, and with the recent addition of Parkside Brewing, Port Moody now has four breweries that are all within a three block radius on Murray Street. Most of the tasting rooms are open daily, so grab a friend or two and check out these awesome breweries and their unique craft brews! Hungry? They all also offer local fare options.

Our recommended plan of attack: Start with Moody Ales and then head East stopping at Parkside Brewing, Yellow Dog Brewing, and finally Twin Sails Brewing. I call it the Port Moody Ale Trail.

2.     Fishing at Lafarge

WHAT: Situated just north of Coquitlam Centre in the heart of Coquitlam, Lafarge Lake is a year-round urban destination that provides convenient access and easy fishing for entry-level anglers. The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout between March and November, meaning that catch-rates are high and therefore, disappointment levels are low.

WHAT: Located in the City of Coquitlam, Crystal Falls is a scenic waterfall that drains into the Coquitlam River and is along a short, easy hiking trail. 6.1 kilometers and just under two hours in total, this highly-populated trail is great for the whole family – pack a snack and make a morning or afternoon of it!
